Glossary

Every term used in Practicing the Miraculous, defined in one place.

The Forgetting
The process by which we lose access to who we were before we arrived. Not a single event. A condition. Like amnesia, but by design.
The Veil
The barrier between what I know now and what I knew before. Permeable. Some days thick, some days thin. When it thins, the signal comes through.
The Remembering
What happens when the veil starts to thin on purpose. Not learning something new. Recovering something old. The mechanism is naming.
The Signal
The truth underneath the noise. Always broadcasting. Every practice in this book is about turning down the noise so the signal can come through.
Noise
Everything that obscures the signal. Fear, shame, inherited patterns, the voice in my head that says "who do I think I am?"
Coherence (C)
The result of the Formula. How much of the signal is getting through right now. Not a grade. A weather report.
Emotional Charge (E)
The fuel. Not positive emotions. Real emotions. Authentic charge. Rated 1–5.
Belief (B)
Bone-deep conviction built from lived experience, not affirmations. Two kinds: pre-evidence B (the spark, possibly a trace from before the Forgetting) and evidence-based B (built by the flywheel of experience). Rated 1–10.
Trust (T)
The willingness to let go of control. Self-trust plus process trust. Often arrives through exhaustion rather than wisdom. Rated 1–10.
Interference (I)
Everything that keeps the veil thick. Most of it was inherited. The denominator. The most powerful variable. Rated 1–10.
The Formula
C = E × (B + T) ÷ I. A naming protocol disguised as a math equation. The math is scaffolding. The naming is the mechanism.
The Seven Degrees
No belief stands alone. Start with any inherited belief and within about seven connections it reaches into every domain of life. One pattern infects everything.
Interference Archaeology
The practice of tracing an interference pattern back to its source. Who said this first? When was it installed? Is it mine?
Surrender
Not passivity. Creating the conditions and then getting out of the way. Palms up. Shoulders shrugged. "I've done what I can. Can I give this to you?"
神迹 (shén jì)
The Chinese word for miracle. Literally: the trace of God. The evidence that something sacred passed through. A miracle with its sleeves rolled up. See full etymology →
“Name it. Out loud.”
